Rio as Infrastructure: Metropolis, Architecture, Politics
Lecture for the AAVS Rio de Janeiro
2021
Urban
approaches in the regional and metropolitan scale in Rio have failed
to respond
to one of the fundamental problems of infrastructure space:
that architecture
not only materialises this logic (at the “local” level), but it may
also transform this logic and operate
it from the scale of architecture.
In the lecture, I advocate for a particular approach that intends to disclose how we can manipulate the infrastructural – that is, the regional capitalist economy, its metropolitan space, etc – through the architectural project.
The lecture is associated with the research project “The architecture of transit estates”.
